Core Activities:
Providing shelter and care for orphans and vulnerable children.
Mants’ase Children’s Home is a residential home for up to 50 orphaned and vulnerable children from 3 years to 18 years old. Children are regularly placed at Mants’ase by Social Welfare or the Child Protection Unit through Social Welfare.
At Mants’ase Children’s Home we provide protection and a loving, stable home environment for these children for as long as they need our assistance and care, so that they don’t have to worry about where their next meal will come from, how they will pay for their education, or whether they will be abused.
Children leave the Home when:
- They are reunited with their families.
- Are adopted or placed in foster care, but only when it is not possible to reunite them with their families and when, in consultation with Social Welfare, this is considered appropriate.
- Are older than 18 years and have completed their schooling.
Activities in Lesotho:
Our primary focus is on providing protection and quality care for the children living at Mants’ase Children’s Home. This includes providing counselling for the children as well as offering counselling to their families.
We believe that through education whole communities can be empowered. We therefore make our facilities available to like-minded NGOs and to those community members who wish to participate in life skills training, includingHIV/AIDS education and the promotion of health and safety in general. We also make our facilities available for local Support Group functions and to the Sewing Group who make children’s clothing for distribution in the community.
Trust for Africa (Lesotho) continues to manage and develop most of our land for us. Trust for Africa supplies Mants’ase Children’s Home with fresh produce and uses the remaining produce for the benefit of orphans and vulnerable children in nearby communities.
Future Plans:
- To continue caring for orphans and vulnerable children.
- To help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.
- To help strengthen our community
