Core Activities:

Facilitation of food production, advocacy campaigns against stigma discrimination of those and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Empowerment of local govt and community structures. Support and empowering of OVC pertaining to their rights and formulating policies for them. Liase OVC with Master of the High Court for legal protection of OVC. Training households of foster families on the special needs of OVC i.e. emotional needs etc. Assist foster families with food production for OVC.

Activities in Lesotho:

    Activities are carried out by employing the Reflection Action Reflection Method.
    Reflection: Understanding the situation and identifying the problem, root causes and effects.
    Action: Taking appropriate action to eradicate the problem.
    Reflection: Monitoring and evaluating the impact of hte action taken to eradicate the problem.

    On OVC, Department of Peace Education helps communities to establish support structure for households caring for orphans; train them in effective parenting, linking them with various agencies working with children.

    Facilitate cooperation between different groups working on HIV and AIDS related initiatives and local government structures, cheifs and other community leaders.

    Community Organisation and Empowerment:

  • DPE provides animation to groups and organisations that are poor and marginalised.
  • Facilitates and enhances community cooperation and solidarity in efforts to transform unjust societies.
  • Builds local capacity to resolve conflict through dialogue and other peaceful means.
  • Links up community initiatives with relevant agencies both state and non state actors.
  • Build capacity within communities to run the projects they have freely chosen, designed and planned.
  • Economic Justice and Policy Dialogue:

  • Creates a platform for ordinary members of community to claim their space in global, national and local policy formulation process.
  • Help communities to link their economic set-backs and experiences with the neo liberal policies.
  • It empowers communities participate in their own governance through different ways namely: public debates, people’s tribunals, community voting, community parliament, etc.
  • HIV and AIDS work is focuses on Human Rights and policy perspective.

Future Plans:

Facilitate cooperation between different groups working on HIV and AIDS related initiatives and local government structures, chiefs and other community leaders.
