Core Activities:
Facilitate the participation of the Christian churches in ensuring the highest comprehensive health quality services to all. There is a focus on those with limited access to health facilities. In addition we offer care and support, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and impact mitigation on HIV and AIDS.
Work towards the improvement and quality of Primary Health Care Services in all CHAL health facilities.
Work towards good corporate governance; and effectiveleadership and management capabilities throughtout CHAL
Improve human resource capacity at the secretariat and health facillities, and to have an effective internal and external communication.
To assist CHAL Secretariat’s and health facilities’ capacity for planning, budgeting programming, monitoring, evaluaion and reporting improved. and to achieve financial sustainability.
Activities in Lesotho:
CHAL has 72 health centers distributed across all 10 districts in Lesotho; plus 8 hospitals in 6 of these districts.
- Income generating activities–Poultry.
- Uniforms for 200 OVC.
- Carpentry for 80 OVC.
- Care takers training
- Repair of 150 homes
- Training on IGAs
With Global fund support CHAL was able to address houses opf minor repairs of OVC’s houses in the Thaba-Tsek district which covered ST.James hospital and Paray Hospital. Some pupils in this particular district were assisted wiht technical skills and engaged in income generating activities among others vegetable production.
- for minor repairs 35 houses for Paray Hospital wre assisted and 25 houses for St. James Hospital wre also assisted.
- for technical skills and income generating trainings, 35 were trained at Paray and 8 from St. James were also trainined.
Future Plans:
- To apply for funding from the Global Fund Round 7 with an OVC focus
- To apply for EU support for an OVC project
- To plan more projects concerning caretakers’ training / shelter / education / psycho-social support and income generation.
- To plan livelihood projects for people with HIV and AIDS.
Needs of Organisation:

- Funding towards support of PHC Activities (maaternal & child health,TB/ HIV & AIDS, OVCs).
- technical support on-data management, development of livelihoodds skills on vulnerable groups, monitoring & evaluation skills.
Training Needs:
For CHAL board: these are the requirements, 1- Code of conduct, 2- Corporate Governance & 3- Leadership skills.
For CHAL Nurse in the institutions the following are required:ophthalmology, psychiatry, neonatal care, life skills in midwifery, post natal care, management of malnutrition
For CHAL Secretariat Management : Leadership skills , Lesotho Labour Laws and their applications, Basic in Finance Management, Project Management & Monitoring and evluation
Funding:
- The Government of Lesotho – subvention for salaries and operating cost.
- SolidarMed- support to 3 hospitals and a Nursing Assistant School, provision of Doctors and a technical officer, ART programmes.
- Doctors without Borders (MSF) – decentralized ART programme at ScottHospital.
- World Food Programme (WFP) – distribution of food to vulnerable members of the community in Scott and St. Joseph’s Hospitals.
- UNICEF – support of women in reproductive age groups and child health programmes.
- Global Fund – support to Aids orphans and TB programme (please see the project table).
