The project will operate over five years in Districts of Maseru (Villages: Ha Thamae, Ha Hoohlo, Ha Thetsane) and Leribe (Villages: Ha Maputsoe, Ha Maqele, Matsoete ) . This project seeks to provide a more inclusive response to home based care, which incorporates the care of OVC in a mutually supportive manner and attempts to work more holistically within a household rather than following the general medical HBC model.
LETSEMA is providing technical, institutional and financial support, together with introducing economic coping mechanisms through the establishment of voluntary savings and loans schemes amongst the 6 x local implementing partners. 60 caregivers will be trained, mentored and supported to provide integrated Home based Care to reach 1,500 adults and 5,000 children. In addition 1000 community leaders and members will be reached through community awareness activities in the geographic service area within the initial 12 month period of the project.
2. Project: Strengthening Civil Society in Lesotho (SCIL): The SCIL program seeks to strengthen civil society organizations and networks in Lesotho with regard to their technical and managerial capacity; community development strategies; ability to network and collaborate; and skills in effective engagement and advocacy with government. The program will achieve this through an innovative combination of capacity building approaches including training workshops, mentoring, cross-visits, and technical assistance. SCIL aims to support the practical application of these skills with support from a small-grants program coupled with continuing technical assistance from the project throughout the project life. Outcomes anticipated:
-Effectiveness and sustainability of CBO’s at the District level increased.
