Core Activities:
The St. Paul School for the Deaf is a primary school which develops academically, socially, spiritually, and culturally competent deaf students who can respond to the broader needs of society. This is accomplished by promoting an environment conducive to human development, facilitating appropriate tuition, cooperative education and support, and encouraging staff commitment to quality education and service. The school takes pride in providing opportunities for the holistic development of its deaf students.

The school has many objectives, such as:
  • Expose hearing impaired children to a special type of training that equips them with relevant academic skills to develop within mainstream society
  • To build self confidence and ambitions leading to future self reliance
  • To promote a spirit of tolerance and harmony between hearing impaired and the rest of society
  • To inform society of its role in shaping the future of hearing impaired persons

The school was established in 1981 by His Lordship Bishop Paul Khorai, with just 8 students and 2 teachers housed within the Catholic Technical School of Leribe. Today it has its own school grounds, serving up to 77 students with 7 government funded teachers and 5 school-funded staff.
