Activities in Lesotho :
At present there is one SOS Children's Village, one SOS Youth Facility, one SOS Kindergarten, one SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, one SOS Social Centre (family strengthening programme) and one SOS Medical Centre in Maseru. See www.sos-childrensvillages.org for details

Also SOS Children's Village Lesotho has set up a community-based child care and support program in Lithabaneng to assist child/grandparent-headed families to provide for their basic needs.

Sub-Villages of Lithabaneng where this SOS Family Strengthening Programme is operating are:
1. Mahopo
2. Marunyeng
3. Tsitsa
4. Lithoteng
5. Lebung
6. Lekhalong
7. Phuleng
8. Ha-Makhetla
9. Ha-Lekhotla

Family Based Care:
  • Children are provided with homes in small family type groups, the SOS families.
  • Within these homes, children develop into a self supporting and contributing member of society is supported.
  • SOS fully caters to the individual needs of each child.


Family Strengthening Programme:
We work together with all relevant stakeholders to find the most appropriate response to the situation of children at risk of losing parental care and those without parental care around in 9 to 10 villages around Lithabaneng.

Kindergarten:
We provide basis education for the general community's children.

Hermann Gmeiner Primary School:
We provide primary education for the general community's children.

SOS Clinic:
We cater to the general community's health needs.

Future Plans:
  • 1 million children enabled to grow in a caring family globally.
  • In Lesotho a second village will be composed of the Family Strengthening Programme, Family Based Care and Kindergarten will operate in Quthing. Lesotho's target number of children to provide services for is 1000.
  • SOS friends around the world to fund 1 million children by developing a large base of high value givers.
  • Strong people, strong associations for 1million children in each association employees work with skills and resources needed to substantially reach out to children.
