Activities in Lesotho :
Kick 4 Life deliver a development through sport project that provides a range of health and education services to vulnerable youth in Lesotho.
The project recognises the importance of education and the development of essential life skills. K4Ls programmes aim to provide opportunities for OVCs to develop the skills and knowledge they need to prevent HIV infection, to live healthy lifestyles and to enter employment. Equally K4L recognise the importance of knowing your HIV status in Lesotho, and they aim to provide people with opportunities to be tested for the disease and referred to relevant health services if necessary.
K4L deliver three key programmes in Lesotho:
1.K4L Curriculum
2.Test Your Team
3.Sports Scholarships for OVCs and HIV+ youth
1. K4L Curriculum
An interactive sport-based programme that:
K4L identifies and trains school teachers, coaches, youth leaders and other community role models to deliver the curriculum to a variety of community groups.
The curriculum creates a fun, friendly and safe environment where youth can play sport and develop healthy attitudes and behaviours concerning HIV.
The programme targets youth (ages 10-18), with a particular focus on orphans and vulnerable children.
2. Test Your Team
The Test Your Team campaign consists of a series of one day football tournaments where HIV education and HIV testing is provided on-site.~ Teams earn tournament points for completing HIV educational sessions, getting HIV tested, and for winning matches.
The campaign targets all youth (10-18 years) and teams are made up of an equal number of boys and girls.
Football is used to educate and motivate individuals for testing in an informal and entertaining environment and attracts at-risk individuals to the events.
Key Aims:
3. Sports Scholarships for OVCs and HIV+ youth
The scheme gives selected OVCs and HIV+ youth a chance to have a secondary education, providing funding for fees, uniforms and books. Through the delivery of other initiatives and input from key local partners, K4L is able to identify, select and then regularly monitor each childs progress throughout their education, supporting them through to employment.
Each child is expected to regularly assist as peer leaders with delivery of the K4L Curriculum throughout the duration of their scholarship.
In their final year of school each scholar must complete the K4L Fit 4 Work programme which supports the transition to employment or further education with sessions on route planning, CV writing, interview techniques and interpersonal skills.
