Core Activities:
Habitat for Humanity Lesotho (HFH Lesotho) is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian organization started in 2001, which seeks to eradicate poverty housing in Lesotho. It is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, based in the United States, with a presence in nearly 100 countries worldwide.

HFH Lesotho works in partnership with individuals, communities, and organizations to provide shelter for low income families and vulnerable groups by building simple, decent, healthy and affordable houses in addition to raising awareness on housing, property ownership and inheritance rights.

HFH Lesotho works in three main program areas:
-Housing (including urban housing for low income families, foster homes for OVC, and rural “safe spaces,” or additional rooms for vulnerable women and girls)
-Advocacy (awareness-raising on land and inheritance rights, especially for widows and OVC)
-Community training (on foster care, home construction, and land rights)
Activities in Lesotho :
In Lesotho, Habitat for Humanity focuses on providing shelter for the most needy groups, including orphans, vulnerable children, widows, and low-income families. Current projects include:
-Urban Housing Project in Khubelu, Maseru District. HFH Lesotho built 143 homes for low income families, utilizing up to 10-year, no-interest mortgages.
-Habitat for Orphans in Marginalised Environments (HOME) I, II, and Extension Projects, Berea, Leribe, and Mafeteng, Maseru, and Butha-Buthe Districts. Target of building 10 urban foster homes and 15 rural, additional rooms for OVC. This project also includes a community training component covering land rights, foster care, and home construction.

-Secure Tenure and Safe Space Project for Lesotho Widows and OVC (SAFE SPACES) Project, Quthing, Maseru, and Butha-Buthe Districts. HFH Lesotho will build 51 safe spaces for vulnerable women and girls in addition to advocating on their behalf through an awareness campaign on land and inheritance law. To date, 40 community paralegals have already been trained in Butha-Buthe and Quthing, with 20 more being trained in Maseru Marzh 2009. After training, they are sent back to their communities to lead advocacy campaigns on secure tenure rights, targeting widows and OVC. Altogether, these paralegals have already reached nearly 14,000 people, disseminating information about housing and inheritance rights.
Future Plans:
In 2009, HFH Lesotho will continue reaching more people through its awareness campaign. HFH Lesotho plans to send out 20 more paralegals in Maseru in addition to printing and disseminating more Enlgish and Sesotho awareness materials. By the end of this Year 1, HFH Lesotho aims to reach 50,000 people through this campaign, and 150,000 after three years.

By the July 2009, HFH Lesotho aims to build 27 additional rooms for OVC and 8 foster homes, through its HOME I, II, and Extension Projects.

HFH Lesotho also plans to increase the number of families served to more than 1,000 per year.
