Core Activities:
FIDA was established in 1988 with the aim of improving the legal minority of women and children. They promoted human rights and encouraged womens participation in elections and civil society. In 1992, as a result of an increase in HIV/AIDS, FIDAs focus shifted to protect the rights of vulnerable groups affected by HIV, such as orphans, widows, and victims of property grabbing.

FIDA accomplishes its goals through legal education and awareness raising, paralegal training, legal aid clinics, legal reform, and material production including translated law for OVC and other vulnerable groups.
Activities in Lesotho :
1. Legal Education and Human Rights: training men and women about the law and human rights.
2. Paralegal Training: providing basic legal skills to lay-persons
3. Legal Aid Services: providing legal services to women who cannot afford the services of lawyers.
4. Political and Demostrative Education: empowering women with leadership skills so as to participate actively in the political arena.
5. Material production: production of educational material in order to enhance all the above mentioned activites.
  • Visit schools to give information about law cases of abuse that normally occur to the orphans by their caregivers.
  • Sometimes caregivers withdraw from caring after abuse, then Federation of Women Lawyers takes it from there by advocating for those abused children sponsorships from Global Fund.
  • 2 OVC from Quthing have received the sponsorship.
  • 1 orphan also receives that sponsorship.
