EDUN is a for-profit business founded on the premise of trade, not aid as a means of building sustainable communities. The company works on a micro-level to help build the skill sets of the factories where the clothes are produced. EDUN is currently produced in India, Peru, Tunisia, Kenya, Uganda, Lesotho, Mauritius and Madagascar. (RED) is also a for-profit company selling products under the RED brand which deliver a proportion of profits to the Global Fund for HIV/AIDs, TB and malaria. Founded by Ali Hewson’s husband Bono and Bobby Shriver.

Edun sells a T-shirt made in a factory in Butha Buthe. By end of 2006 they had produced 140,000 T-shirts there. $10 from each sale is donated to ALAFA – a fund which provides HIV treatment for the garment workers and their families that made the shirt. One of the (GAP) RED T-shirt line is also made in Lesotho from 100% African cotton.
