Core Activities:
The Semonkong Childrens Centre was opened in February 2005 by Jill Kinsey an English missionary who is now based at the Pulane Childrens Centre. The Semonkong Childrens Centre is an orphanage run by missionaries Patrick and Tara Baanen, which serves more than 80 HIV infected or affected children between the ages 0 and 19 years in the Semonkong area, as well as grandparents, widows, and other vulnerable children including herd boys. In October 2009 the Centre accommodated 85 children and gives out 35 food parcels every month to vulnerable orphans who are staying with relatives.
Its aim is to assist orphans and vulnerable children in Lesotho, to help them reach their potential, and to live a positive life. The Semonkong Childrens Centre works hand in hand with the local community and seeks to empower local churches to take their responsibility for caring for orphans and widows in their community.
