Activities in Lesotho :
Biodiversity project is aimed at the adoption of an integrated approach to natural resource management for the alleviation of poverty and focuses on cultivated, semi-domesticated and under-utilized crops commonly referred to as agro-biodiversity. Food Security overall objective is to reduce vulnerability due to poverty and increase food availability and security at household level through a number of appropriate strategic interventions and improve nutritional status.


Policy project: is aimed at promoting rights based approaches to policy formulations and adoption of strategies that strengthen policy planning mechanisms. Health related: activities are aimed at promoting the welfare of the disadvantages, vulnerable population and primary health Care Activities. Human Rights: activities specialize in the promotion of democracy and the promotion of civil society and the rule of law. This provides training on human rights and democracy for citizens of Lesotho particularl rural based and marginalized communities

The organization is serving over 1000 small-scale farmers in 13 villages in Semonkong (Maseru District) and 10 villages at Ha Khabo (Leribe District). About 50 farmers in Semonkong specialized in production of seed potato. Again another 50 farmers volunteered to engage into organic production project.

In Addition, organization is targeting over 200 female headed households and 100 orphan headed families in the homestead vegetable production. Furthermore, KMA is working with about 150 youth group on the conservation of biodiversity (nursery and botanical garden).

We are also helping about 20 women in the wool and mohair processing industry. About five villages were supplied with clean drinking water and over 200 people benefited from construction of Ventilated Pit Latrines constructed in Semonkong. General public in the operating sites directly and indirectly benefited from the organization programmes.
Future Plans:
  • Hold and implement Biodiversity Sub- Regional Programme
  • Executing a long term Human Rights Project focusing on training and awareness raising
  • Strengthening the training workshops, awareness raising and sensitization on importance of protection and promotion of orphans and vulnerable people.
  • Documentation and publication of experiences and testimonies on violations of human rights
  • Improving vulnerable people's livelihoods and households food security
  • Provision of sanitary facilities(toilets) for vulnerable households and promotion of health education and hygiene
  • Provision of domestic water supply for rural communities
  • Assist in the review of legislation on children, disabilities and women
Needs of Organisation:
Funding for institutional development( additional staff, vehicle assets to overcome transport challenges, office space(construction of office space) and human capacity building in disciplines related to environment, health, policy, project and financial Management, project proposal writing and reporting, Monitoring and evaluation Post harvest Storage( Community Seed Bank) to over come post harvesting losses and marketing challenges adequate funding for fully engage in the implementation of health and Social welfare programme
