8000 children immunised against measles in Quthing
22 October, Quthing: At least 8000 children aged up to five years have been immunised against measles in the Quthing district.
Ms. Likeleli Mkhapetla, the District Public Health Nurse said that the campaign aimed to eradicate measles in the district. A vitamin A capsule and deworming tablets were also administered during the campaign.
The vitamin A capsules were distributed to boost childrens immune systems and improve their eye sight, and deworming tablets prevent internal worms such as tape worms.
The campaign was successful as the target was to immunise 7000 children in 104 immunisation centres and they exceeded this.
The last national measles immunisation campaign was carried out in 2004.
