Weve just returned from spending a couple of days in Lesotho with Kick4Life, our first charitable partner. We are delighted to officially announce this partnership, as the charity do a huge amount of work with children in Lesotho, a country blighted by HIV and poverty.
Using football as a way of drawing children into education and awareness raising curriculums, Kick4Life have already tested 8,000 young people for HIV, referring more than 350 to life saving antiretrovial treatment and have delivered HIV education and life skills training to more than 15,000 young people.
We had the privilege of opening our first Boot Library whilst there, to be used for the benefit and enjoyment of the children of Lesotho.
Steve Fleming, Kick4Life Director comments;
We at K4L are delighted to be working in partnership with Kick4change and the recent opening of the Boot Library in Lesotho is a really exciting development that will mean thousands of disadvantaged children who take part in Kick4Life activities will be able to do so wearing high quality boots and other sports equipment. Many of the children we work with are extremely deprived and do not have any footwear meaning they have to play barefoot when they come to our health and education events. Thanks to the Boot Library this is no longer the case.
Whilst in Lesotho, we had great fun in helping to organise a football tournament for approx 150 children, with the finalists getting to wear the 4sport strips and boots. The winners, Mazenod OVC (orphan and vulnerable child) were rewarded with an Everton FC top each and our thanks must go to Val Lovell who kindly donated the shirts on behalf of the club.
