About Us

Letsema is a Sentebale progamme and our mission is to transform the lives of Lesotho’s orphans and vulnerable children by working as a coordinated network of organisations bringing help to child victims of this devastating disease.

Letsema is based in Maseru and provides a central hub for HIV/AIDS organisations to work together and share knowledge and resources.

Sentebale was founded by Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, and Prince Harry, younger son of the Prince of Wales, following his gap year visit to Lesotho. Overwhelmed by the plight of the children he met, Prince Harry made a long-term commitment to the children of Lesotho through Sentebale. We are very proud that since its beginnings in 2007, the charity is growing from strength to strength, changing the lives of the most vulnerable and at-risk children. At present we have three programmes: grant-making, where we fund 13 organisations at present; and psychosocial support for children living with HIV and their caregivers. A third programme is the Letsema Network, made up of almost 600 organisations working with orphaned and vulnerable children in Lesotho. Letsema’s aim is to improve collaboration, coordination, and communication in the national response to orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs). This means it is critical for Letsema to bring together partners ranging from the Department of Social Welfare to community-based support groups to coordinate their response to the challenges faced by communities with the high numbers of orphaned and vulnerable children among us.
